雖然陳金鋒因為代表台灣參加奧運而錯失了一個月的比賽，不過他依然再一次在小聯盟打出了優異的成績（.289-20-65）雖然他再一次被叫上了大聯盟，也曾短暫地在大聯盟出賽，不過一如往常地，在大聯盟的大部分時間他依然是坐在板凳上。

當他1999年第一次打職棒時，他在San Bernadino繳出了.316-31-123的優異成績時，他並沒有He's not the wonderboy he seemed when he first broke in with San Bernadino in1999 when he produced a .316-31-123 year but he has always had the kind of numbers that gain notice. He has good bat speed and a a level swing thatgenerates pop. He's been a streaky hitter for the most part and often chasespitches out of the zone so his strikeout totals have been high.

It's in the field that he has problems. He's had shoulder problems so asub-par arm chains him to left field. They tried him at first base in 2002 buthe didn't fare well there so has gone back to full-time outfielding. Thus,it's his bat that will carry him.

He seems more than capable of being a power hitter in the big leagues; however,has been given litle chance in Los Angeles. This would seem to be a crucialyear for him, one in which he either makes the team or moves on.
